Le Driadi

Contemporary Balfolk

Le Driadi was born in Turin in 2023. French balfolk the poetry of Italian cantautorato and the sound world of contemporary indie-pop collided in a chaotic encounter in the Alps at the heart of the Fréjus Tunnel giving rise to a performance that sings in Italian and dances in French.

For Le Driadi tradition is a living magmatic and pulsating element whose flame allows new expressive possibilities to emerge. The repertoire includes traditional dances open to improvisation while always placing at its core the social function of popular dance as a space for sharing and collective experience. The group works primarily with French dances alongside a rediscovery of traditional Piedmontese dances enriching the repertoire by starting from Italian roots and moving beyond national borders.

On stage Le Driadi’s performance is both powerful and energetic yet intimate and tightly woven. Concerts alternate moments of strong rhythmic intensity with more delicate and suspended passages creating a continuous flow between music and dance whether in couples or in group formations.

In 2024 Le Driadi released their debut album Dentro lo specchio which gathers and further develops this artistic path by placing traditional materials in dialogue with contemporary writing. The group has performed in Italy Germany Switzerland Belgium Poland the Czech Republic Spain and the Netherlands taking part in major international festivals such as the Boombal Festival in Belgium in 2024. Balancing tradition and experimentation Le Driadi propose a contemporary balfolk capable of engaging diverse audiences actively contributing to the evolution of European folk music.
